Liza Oates PhD is a highly experienced naturopathic practitioner and mentor. She began practice in 2000 and has been involved in the clinical education of hundreds of naturopaths, nutritionists and medical students. While Liza is adept at treating most conditions she has a special interest in the nervous and gastrointestinal systems (in particular stress-related conditions, mood and fatigue disorders and digestive issues), as well as general wellness promotion. She primarily utilises food as medicine and dietary and lifestyle counselling; and recommends herbs, nutritional supplements and flower essences where necessary. Her aim is to keep treatment strategies affordable and manageable, and to set patients up to succeed. Liza also provides mentoring services, an opportunity for qualified practitioners, especially early career practitioners, to discuss challenging cases.
Her doctoral research investigated ‘the health and wellness effects of organic diets’ and she also holds a Graduate Certificate in Evidence Based Complementary Medicine and a Bachelor of Health Science (Naturopathy). She teaches postgraduate wellness students in Food as Medicine and Wellness Practices and Perspectives, and Health Enhancement and mindfulness to medical students. Liza has written extensively about evidence-based complementary medicine and has appeared as an expert guest on The Project, Insight and over 200 radio programs.
